He called the greenhouse "the most important scientific place in the Czech Republic" - it was here that Mendel worked with twenty thousand pea plants and discovered the laws of heredity. On the site of the foundations, a modern building will be built, but it will be in the spirit of the original plans.
And so will the new memorial, created by contemporary artist and top engraver Rudolf Cigánik on the basis of period motifs.
The celebrations of Mendel's anniversary include, for example, a scientific conference with the participation of four Nobel Prize winners and will culminate in a festival on 23-24 July at Mendel Square.
